Learning Astrology Helped Me To Trust Myself

Much of my early life was spent suppressing and ignoring my body’s cues. I didn’t trust myself, which made it challenging to trust others.

When I first began learning astrology, I focused on the moon cycles. Astrologically, the Moon is the fastest-moving “planet.” While it’s technically not a planet, its influence is undeniable, making it an ideal starting point for understanding the flow of energy. The Moon rules our emotions, so its influence can feel intense—but those feelings often pass quickly. Tracking the Moon’s cycles and observing how they affect my mood, energy, and body not only validated my experiences but also helped me take them less personally.

Over time, I began tracking other planetary movements. Mercury, the planet of communication and platonic relationships, also moves relatively quickly, revealing patterns that play out over the course of a year. As I dove deeper, observing the slower-moving outer planets, like Uranus—the planet of unexpected changes—provided insight into larger “eras” of my life.

These outer planets, which remain in the same sign for many years, also illuminate cultural shifts. They reveal how collective changes align with planetary movements. For instance, Pluto, the planet associated with transformation and generational identity, transitioned into Aquarius in November 2024. Pluto’s cycles coincide with how we define generations. Babies born starting now, in January 2025, are considered part of a whole new generation.

Bodies change and that’s OK- even celestial bodies.

My yoga therapist has been helping me learn to trust my body for years. Through movement, meditation, and intentional breath, I’ve started to feel a sense of ease within myself. Yet, there was still more work to do.

As I deepened my astrological practice, I began to trust the cycles unfolding around me and how they mirrored the changes happening within me. Humans are relational beings. When I named the energies I was noticing, my friends and clients often widened their eyes in agreement, sharing similar experiences.

Astrology allows me to zoom out, to see the larger cycles beyond myself, and to trust the smaller ones within.

For years, my eating disorder and perfectionism manifested as a need to micromanage my body. Astrology helped me loosen that grip. It taught me to recognize the influence of forces outside myself and to trust those cycles—along with my own.
